The history of New Cumnock will be added, piece by piece as we get it. The idea behind this forum is to enable locals and visitors (past and potential) to give their views on "New Cumnock", its good and bad points, but mainly its potential. New Cumnock sits as a gateway on Ayrshires' southern boundary with Dumfriesshire, in the south west of Scotland. 2009 has to be a turning point for New Cumnock and in turn Ayrshire. 25 January 2009 should have been the kick off to a great year for Scotland, the south west in particular, but on that date: Carbuncle Award Nominee - news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/7850003.stmAt the end of May, Auchinleck Talbot won the Scottish Junior Cup for the eighth time. Well done to them. At the beginning of June Glenafton Athletic are again in the playoffs. We've got to get behind them. They're the pride of aul' New Cumnock, so come away the Glen.We need to build on our strengths. More follows:

Perhaps the anniversaries in August, September and October 2010 will be the kick-starts New Cumnock needs. August 1930: the local football team first played as Glenafton Athletic. (Oak anniversary) August 1960: Glenafton played at their new football ground for the 1st time; Loch Park. (Gold anniversary) (August 1789, an English company opened Afton Mine.) September 1950: The Knockshinnoch pit disaster claimed the souls of 13 men but many were saved through bravery. (Diamond anniversary) October 1850: The Glasgow railway Line was extended from the new station at New Cumnock to Carlisle. Christening the line "The Burns Line" would benefit the whole of the Burns Corridor; from Alloway to Gretna via Ayr and Kilmarnock.
